Security and Biometrics

Q. What is biometric security?
A. Biometric security uses unique physical traits — like your face or fingerprint — to verify that it’s really you. It’s a fast, secure way to sign in without relying only on passwords.

Q. Why is the bank adding biometrics to YOUBanking?
A. Biometrics provide stronger protection against fraud and unauthorized access. They make it easier for you to log in securely while helping us keep your accounts safe from evolving threats.

Q. Who is Daon, and why are they involved?
A. Daon is a trusted global leader in biometric authentication. Many financial institutions use Daon’s technology to protect customer accounts. We partner with Daon to ensure your biometric data is handled securely and meets industry‑leading standards.

Q. What biometric information will be collected?
A. We may collect facial recognition data or fingerprint information depending on your device. This data is converted into a secure digital template — not a photo — and used only to verify your identity.

Q. How is my biometric data stored and protected?
A. Your biometric data is encrypted and stored securely using Daon’s technology. It cannot be used to recreate your face or fingerprint. We do not sell or share biometric data, and it is used only for authentication.

Q. Can someone steal or copy my biometric data?
A. Biometric templates cannot be used like a photo or fingerprint image. Even if someone had access to the template, they could not use it to impersonate you. This is one of the reasons biometrics are considered more secure than passwords.

Q. Do I have to use biometrics to log in?
A. No. Biometrics are optional. You can continue using your username, password, and other security steps if you prefer.

Q. What happens if my device doesn’t support biometrics?
A. You can still access Online Banking using your regular login credentials. If your device supports biometrics in the future, you can enroll at any time.

Q. What if my biometric scan doesn’t work?
A. If your biometric scan can’t be verified, you’ll still be able to log in using your password and a secondary security step. This ensures you’re never locked out of your account.

Q. Can multiple people use biometrics on the same account?
A. No. Biometrics are tied to a single user. Each person needs their own login credentials to enroll and use biometric authentication.

Q. What if I stop being a customer?
A. If your accounts are closed, your biometric data will be deleted according to our retention policy. We do not keep biometric information longer than necessary.

Q. Will biometrics change how I contact the call center?
A. Yes — in a good way. If you choose to enroll, your voice or biometric profile may help verify your identity more quickly when you call in, reducing security questions and speeding up service.

Q. Can I turn biometrics off later?
A. Yes. You can unenroll at any time through your Online Banking settings.

Q. Does using biometrics affect my credit or financial information?
A. No. Biometrics are used only to verify your identity. They do not impact your credit score, account activity, or financial records.

Q. Where can I learn more about how my biometric data is used?
A. You’ll receive a biometric privacy disclosure during enrollment. It explains what data is collected, how it’s used, how long it’s kept, and your rights under state and federal regulations.
